What do people need to know about the big Avera Cancer Institute Gala?
The first thing to know is that tickets for the event are sold out! We are expecting around 3,000 people for this extraordinary event but please know, if you don't have tickets for Friday night, you can come and tour the building on Sunday, November 7 from 1pm – 4pm for the community open house.
You are expecting big crowds, what does that mean for guests with regard to arrival at the event and parking?
We're encouraging people to car-pool when possible. We do have enough parking on campus for everyone and we are running eight shuttle buses around the campus to pick people up from our various parking lots and the north parking ramp. Doors open at 6pm so we anticipate traffic will be heaviest between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.
If you've driven by your campus, you can't help but notice an enormous tent next to the building. Is that where the party is?
The doors to the tent and the building open at 6pm. The program, featuring keynote speaker Lance Armstrong, begins at 7pm in the tent. There is sufficient seating in the tent, but guests will be able to move back and forth between the tent and the Avera Cancer Institute and there will be food and beverages in both locations. Also, the tent is just beautiful inside and is heated so ladies, you don't have to worry if the weather is chilly on Friday night!
We do want to remind guests to bring their tickets to the event and for those people who weren't able to purchase tickets, we invite you to please attend the community open house on November 7 from 1pm – 4pm. We want to give everyone an opportunity to see this incredible building.
