Deuel senior wants to help troubled kids

Today's Scholar of the Week is not only involved both in and out of the classroom, she takes on leadership roles within those organizations.

No easy task with a sky-high G.P.A. and a starting role on the girls basketball team.

Meet Alyssa Becht.

Positive, upbeat and smiling.

Just a few words Alyssa's teachers use to describe their star student.

"You can usually count on giggling, smiling, she has a great rapport with other kids and it doesn't matter what age," says biology teacher Ramona Lundberg.

Alyssa says she got all of the hard classes out of her way before her senior year.

Even still - her class load's not a light one.

Alyssa hopes biology, pre-cal and government will help lead her to a future career in psychology.

"I'm hoping to be a child trauma psychologist and work with the Red Cross," says Alyssa.

She plans to attend N.S.U.

The middle child between two sisters, Alyssa and her family live in the country with two dogs and a cat.

"I love to read mystery and romance, I like that a lot, " she says.

A starter on the basketball team and member of Key Club, student council and National Honor Society...Alyssa even has musical talent outside of the choir and band.

"When I'm stressed I play piano. That's my favorite thing to do," explains Alyssa.

Electric Cooperative is sending Alyssa a hundred dollar scholarship for her hard work. That's a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
