Scholar of the Week: Future chemical engineer

Posted: Updated:

Today's Scholar of the Week wants to study chemical engineering and also has a strong interest in agriculture.

Travis Buse's teachers hope he can combine the two interests and make a difference in his state's number one industry.

"He manages to balance and still get good grades, it's an impressive thing about Travis," explains Lennox High School ag teacher Jim Wilson.

His teachers also say Travis leads by example, putting in the hard work to reach his goals.

"Whether it's in or out of the classroom he excels in those areas and all classes he takes," says Wilson.

Travis is also involved in his church's youth group.

"This summer I'll be going to Rocky Mountain High," says Travis.

The annual church gathering last 3 to 4 days but provides a lifetime of memories.

"This year I might go white water rafting and it's a lot of fun."

But when he's not in school, at practice or at church, Travis is your everyday teenager.

"I like to spend time with friends, have some fun."

In return for his effort in school Travis will get a hundred dollar scholarship from Southeastern Electric Co-op - a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
