City picks Cherapa Place as downtown location for events center
The Sink Combs Dethlefs team is no stranger to Events Center research as they have been involved in two previous studies done by the city.
The team did a study on the traffic flow in and out of downtown made an inventory of the available parking and then determined which locations were available.
Three potential sites were analyzed, Cherapa Place, along the River Greenway, the Sioux Steel land near the Falls, and land on the Railroad Near 8th Street.
The team then rated each location on several factors to make their decision.
"After careful analysis we think Cherapa is by far the best location downtown that is readily available," said Dan Dethlefs.
This is the same site that was proposed in 2005 but still held up as the best location.
Mayor Huether says he is pleased with the progress being made and that this analysis was done to hopefully answer questions the public may have.
"It takes some of the guesswork and rumors out of it and that's important when you're investing a hundred million dollars of the peoples money," said Mayor Mike Huether.
Of the three proposed sites Cherapa has the most available parking and grants easy access to downtown businesses.
While Cherapa is not *the* location everyone involved just wants to make sure the Sioux Falls events center is done right.
"You have got to make sure this building works from day one a reputation is made the moment it opens and it's got to be positive and everyone's got to love it," said Dethlefs.
The analysis was done to determine the best location for a downtown Events Center now all that information will be handed over to AE Com and they will determine which site has the biggest economic impact for the city.
The comparative analysis between the 2 sites is already underway and the city expects the results on the study in mid-April.
