Future teacher loves music

Posted: Updated:

Megan Vockrodt is an 'A' student who's talented athletically, academically and musically.

And in her spare time she babysits for foster parents.

Just a few reasons she's deserving of being today's Scholar of the Week.

"I'm a neat freak, people would get on me for that," says Megan Vockrodt, who must be doing something right because she'll be graduating among the top of her 200 classmates at Pierre High School this spring.

From there she's got a plan in place.

"I'm torn between SDSU and NSU, I'm gonna go for elementary education but it's a matter of where yet."

Megan loves playing tennis and is very talented in music and is hoping to minor in music next fall

"I also taught flute and I've been in the Pierre Capitol Band so I've done a lot with music and working with kids."

"She's always fulfilling a mentor roll, it's really incredible," says Pierre High School band director Bethany Amundson.

Her teachers know that mentoring goes along with teaching which will likely give Megan a successful future in education.

"She's one of those rare students with a passion for teaching," says Amundson.

Oahe Electric Cooperative is sending Megan a hundred dollar scholarship for her hard work.

That's a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
