Big Sister with big goals

Posted: Updated:

Today's Scholar of the Week hasn't even graduated high school yet - and she's already working a job as a Certified Nurse Assistant.

She's also a Big Sister - but not in the way you might think.

Meet Carmen Raville.

"Our graduation ceremony will be short," laughs Carmen Raville who is one in a class of twenty graduating this spring from Marion High School.

She's a Big Sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.

Her Little Sister is eleven years old.

"She's fun, we've been to the butterfly house, bowling, we like ice cream, we've been to the movies and really like the popcorn," says Carmen.

Carmen plays volleyball and basketball for Marion and is in the band and choir.

As you might imagine, this Scholar also has a loaded class schedule - and works a part time job.

"I work at the home, I'm a C.N.A. - it's a pretty good job."

But she'll leave nursing behind for a future profession of another choice.

"I'm gonna go for forensic investigation, it's what I've always wanted to do," says Carmen.

"I see her taking this as far as she wants to go. She will succeed," says her English teacher Becky Mohr Luke.

Carmen will receive a hundred dollar scholarship from Southeastern Electric Coop for being our Scholar of the Week.

That's a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
