Scholar of the Week: Future vet gets the grades

Posted: Updated:

Jenetta Porter is the president of the Platte-Geddes FFA, and that's just the start of her love for animals and agriculture.

It's her ability to plan for the future that's led Jenetta to be our Scholar of the Week.

"Free time? I work on college stuff cuz I really need to get prepared for that," says Jenetta Porter.

There's not much free time for Platte-Geddes senior.

When she's not preparing for college or taking her advanced classes or busy with school clubs, she can be found helping her dad on the family farm.

"I have a feeling we'll be calving. It's just a time to get stuff done."

But she also knows how to relax and have fun.

"Jenny's kind of a ball of fire - she likes to have a good time," says her teacher Jody Gittings.

Jenetta also works at the Central Dakota Animal Clinic.

And if you haven't guessed it yet, she hopes to study animal science after graduation, at SDSU.

Which her teachers say should be no problem.

"She's extremely smart, hardworking and has lots of good leadership skills," says Gittings.

Jenetta definitely has a plan for her future, hoping that after her undergrad she can go to Colorado State or Iowa State for vet school.

And she even knows what she wants after she becomes a vet.

"I wanna live on a farm with lots of horses and cows - that's my plan," says Jenetta.

Jenetta will get a hundred dollar scholarship from Charles Mix Electric Association for being our Scholar of the Week.

That's a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
