It is a place that helps family stay close to their loved ones while undergoing treatment at the Avera Heart Hospital.
It's called the Prairie Heart Guest House; imagine a hotel connected to a hospital and you get the idea.
On Wednesday, there was a lot of spring in the air at the Avera Heart Hospital: a plant sale with proceeds benefiting the Prairie Heart Guest House...money that will help families who are in need.
The Prairie Heart Guest House is a true home away from home for the family members of cardiac patients at the Avera Heart Hospital.
The treatment process can be stressful for everyone involved.
Rose Fedt has spent a lot of time at the heart hospital with her husband Charlie, as his doctors work to get him better.
But as a result, Rose has also spent a lot of time at the Prairie Heart Guest House and she says knowing it's there makes all the difference in the world. "It's very nice to be able to go and have a place close to your family, it's very comforting and relaxing."
The idea of comfort and relaxation figured prominently into the plan to build the guest house.
Ann Olson is the president of the Prairie Heart Guest House board. "We serve a 5-state area and so a lot of the people that come into the heart hospital are from out of state or out of the area."
Olson says when family know they have a place to stay that is close to the heart hospital, they don't have to worry about going out and trying to find their way back to an off site hotel.
They're already on site....close to their loved ones and the doctors who are caring for them. "We feel like it is healthier for the patient in the hospital if their family can get away and rest and they're so close....if they need to they can come right back to the hospital."
Every year, the Avera Heart Hospital hosts a plant sale with proceeds benefiting the Prairie Heart Guest House.
And there is a lot of different stuff on sale: herbs, flowers, plants, ornaments....all of it ready to help people think spring.
Even Rose Fedt got in on the action. "I got a lot of flowers, I got a lot of metal art for the yard...so some very nice things...it was kind of nice to have a little bit different atmosphere."
An atmosphere that reminds both Rose and Charlie that spring is here and better days are ahead.
Also a reminder that something as simple as buying a plant can make a difference and help families who need that home away from home.
The Prairie Heart Guest House has 32 rooms.
Each room has two queen sized beds with wireless Internet access.
Guests also have access to laundry services at the guest house.
