Former Gov. Mike Rounds is among the homeowners anxiously keeping track of the rising Missouri River in the Pierre-Fort Pierre area.
Rounds and wife Jean moved to a new home near the river north of Fort Pierre when he left office in January.
He says that they're taking precautions to protect the home in light of an expected rise in the river that could flood homes in the two communities.
Rounds said the house doesn't have a basement but has a crawl space that could fill with water. He said he hasn't thought much about the possibility of having to temporarily evacuate.
The river is rising because the Army Corps of Engineers is releasing more water from Lake Oahe to make room for rain and snowmelt runoff.
