Action News was given access to one of the training rooms where employees of the Grand Falls Casino near Larchwood are learning the ins and outs of the games of chance you will be able to play when the casino opens next week.
We met one man who changed careers because of this new casino opening up.
They're dealers in the making...and they have just 10 days before they put practice into action...
Jeff Hasselmann along with many others you see here have been training for the last two months. Jeff is learning to deal Craps and he says it wasn't exactly an easy game to learn. "It was overwhelming at first because personally I don't know the game. Never played it before but they get us caught up quickly."
Trainers tell us the hardest game to deal is craps but Jeff was up for the challenge.
"Originally I started out as a poker dealer and I got pulled over to Craps," Hasselmann said.
And he's a long way from where he started a few months ago. Jeff just switched careers not too long ago. He was a sports editor for a daily newspaper in Spencer, Iowa but jumped at the chance to come back where he grew up.
"I'm from Lyon County so the opportunity for me to come back closer to family and be part of something I've been looking forward to," Hasselmann said.
And he's not the only one. The people training these table gamers are just as excited to open the doors. Jim Scott is one of those trainers. "It's very exciting we've been putting a lot of work into getting these guys trained getting ready to open it's all starting to come together."
And come together quickly. Even though the casino isn't open for business just yet -- Jeff knows this was a smart career move. "Seems like in the casino you can move up in business and have some opportunities for growth." Hasselmann said.
And he's excited along with his co-workers to put what they've been learning for the past few months into action.
The Grand Falls Casino will officially open Thursday, June 9th at 7PM.
