Stained glass installation

Posted: Updated:

An exciting addition is going up at Gloria Dei Church off 57th Street here in Sioux Falls.

What's been plain windows is being transformed into stained glass - but not necessarily the kind of stained glass you're thinking of.

This project is a little different.

What took two years to create is finally becoming a reality for Gloria Dei Church in Sioux Falls.

"I hope when someone walks in here their mouth opens a bit and say wow that's great!" exclaims artist Scott Parsons.

The largest of these 24 panels weigh nearly 400 pounds - all of them stained glass.

"The process is literally to stain the glass. You paint it and fire it," explains Parsons.

Commissioned artist Scott Parsons says that process creates the warm gold and amber tones.

He uses a different process for the rest of the rainbow.

"All the other colors, each piece has been fired 4 to 5 times each."

The panels on the left tell the story of creation.

The panels in the middle - the life of Christ and panels on the right depict the life of the church.

Parsons says, "I really wanted it to be for the glory of God and just celebrate the day like, this is such a beautiful day we have. Life is good."

During the process artist Scott Parsons traveled with the panels to Germany several times to help with firing his panes of stained glass.

If you'd like to see the windows - Gloria Dei Church is off 57th Street on the east side of town.
