Delta to cut flights to 3 South Dakota cities

Posted: Updated:

Delta Airlines recently announced they will cut flights in 24 cities.

The cities of Pierre, Watertown, and Aberdeen regional airports are just a few of those affected.

But Delta may not be cutting their services in Aberdeen.

They applied to discontinue service in aberdeen for 90 days, so they could apply for an essential air acsess subsidy through the department of transportation.

"Delta is planning on bidding on that proposal and other carriers could bit on it and the community makes a recommendation to the dot and the dot selects a carrier for Aberdeen." Says Aberdeen Regional Airport Manager Mike Wilson.

The Delta Aberdeen flights have an occupancy rate of 56 percent, that ranked 6th best of the 24 programs that may be cut.

Wilson said that Delta's planned cuts will not affect Aberdeen.
