Scholar of the Week: Baltic senior close with family

Posted: Updated:

His list of talents is long - both in and out of the classroom.

Schoolwork and family are Justin Mahugta's priorities.

Priorities that have taken him to the head of the class and made him our Scholar of the Week.

A senior at the top of his graduating class at Baltic, and a stellar A.C.T. score...Justin Mahugta knows how to aim high.

He also has a lot of school spirit, dressed as Darth Vader when we met with him.

Don't worry he's just participating in homecoming week at Baltic High School.

He filled his high school years with tough classes and lots of activities, excelling at many of them.

That's leaving his future wide open.

"I'm not sure what I want to do - it's a big decision," says Justin.

He's pretty sure his future will involve math - a subject where he does well.

But his studious demeanor doesn't necessarily fool his teachers.

"He's quiet but he has a unique sense of humor, he can seem quiet and shy," says Baltic High School math teacher Alex Langner.

Justin is also close with his family - he tells us they eat dinner together nearly every night, and he attributes most of his success to them - for not ever letting him take the easy way out.

In return for being our Scholar of the Week, Justin will receive a hundred dollar scholarship from Sioux Valley Energy - a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
