Kermit Staggers discusses events center vote with KSFY

Posted: Updated:

We sat down with former Sioux Falls City Council member Kermit Staggers and asked him about the upcoming events center vote.

Staggers tells us he's not sure which way the vote will go, but he thinks either way it will be a very close outcome.

He also says campaigning in these last days and hours could have a hand in the results.

On Tuesday voters in Sioux Falls will cast their ballots either in favor of or against a 115 million dollar events center.

Kermit Staggers says the advertising campaign the Build It Now group has put forward recently could influence some people's votes in the short amount of time before the election.

He says he hopes, however, before people go to the polls Tuesday, they take the short time left to review the facts.

Staggers says voters should educate themselves on all sides of the issue, taking into account both the city's plan and the arguments against it.  He says that way people can make the decision that's best for themselves.

Staggers also says it's impossible to predict which way the vote will go Tuesday, but, he says, this special election reminds him of another one the people of Sioux Falls cast their ballots in before, saying, "I remember when the Pavilion was eventually approved, it was a really, really close vote, so the same thing can probably happen here: a close vote."

Staggers says he plans to head to the polls Tuesday.
