Community Center recreation leaders save a life

Posted: Updated:

On December 4, 2011, a participant at the Weekend Open Gym program at Morningside Community Center experienced a cardiac arrest.

Officials say, fortunately for the young man, the Community Center Recreation Leaders, Trey Bren and Kelsey Remund, were able to respond immediately and appropriately with the Public Access Defibrillator (PAD) and administration of CPR.

Kelly Grogan, Captain for Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, in partnership with Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation, conducts preseason CPR and first aid training for all SFPR seasonal part-time staff.

Trey Bren and Kelsey Remund are shining examples of how important this training is and how a quick, deliberate, and appropriate response to emergency situations can take a situation from dire to triumphant.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation, along with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, would like to honor Trey and Kelsey for their efforts on December 4, 2011, which ultimately helped to save a life.

At 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 22nd, we will be celebrating their accomplishment at Fire Station 3, located at 2820 South Minnesota Avenue.

Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether, Mike Crane from the Parks and Recreation Board, and Fire Chief Jim Sideras will present Trey and Kelsey with a plaque in recognition of their actions.
