Local downtown business reflects on a good year

Posted: Updated:

New York Express Pizza's owner and operator Ethan Ortega looks back on their first eleven months in Sioux Falls.

"Business is grown. Able to meet people, walk-in traffic has been great. Great to be part of something that's growing," Ethan Ortega said.

He's talking about downtown Sioux Falls -- a place that adds more successful restaurants and shops each year. That brings in more people which gives them more exposure.  All of that can change with a little bad weather. Luckily, he said it's held off, for the most part.

"It's a blessing not to have snow and ice due to the fact that it affects both customers and employees. With that said we're blessed to have the good weather," Ortega said.

He attributes some of his success to being a native New Yorker and giving his restaurant the real feel.

"It feels good to be original," he said.

As they say goodbye to a 2011 and hello to a brand new year, he says this will be his goal.

"To be a bigger part of the community. Now that our name is out there, people know who we are, we hope to be a bigger part of the community and what happens with it," Ortega said.
