2011-12 KSFY/KWSN Basketball Rankings – December 19, 2011

3rd Ranking

KSFY/KWSN will release a weekly top-five poll for all classes throughout the regular season of Boys and Girls Basketball in South Dakota. Here is the 3rd ranking for the three classes in Boys and Girls (AA, A, B). The team's record and ranking support are included.

Boys High School Basketball Rankings

Class AA

1 – Mitchell (6-1), 20, previously #3

1 – Pierre (5-1), 20, previously #4

3 – SF O'Gorman (5-2), 18, previously #2

4 – SF Washington (3-1), 11, previously #1

5 – SFLincoln (3-1), 6, unranked but previously received votes

The AA rankings included a number of changes. At the top, Pierre and Mitchell both garnered 20 poll points after impressive weeks. Pierre, which had been ranked #4, and Mitchell, previously #3, both have won five straight games. Mitchell had a pair of key wins at the Mike Miller Classic, including defeating Memphis Central, 64-60.  Pierre recorded wins over Huron and both Rapid City schools. SF O'Gorman dropped from 2nd to 3rd after two close losses at the Miller Classic. SF Washington fell from #1 to #4 after losing to Briarcrest, TN, 74-56. SF Lincoln, unranked last poll, upset powerful De LaSalle, MN, 62-60, and jumped into the #5 spot.

Class A

1 – Dell Rapids (5-0), 25

2 – St. Thomas More (6-0), 20

3 – Dakota Valley (4-0), 11, unranked

4 – McLaughlin (6-1), 10, previously #5

5 – McCook Central/Montrose (5-1), 9, previously #3

Also receiving votes –

Deuel (5-0), 1

Undefeated Dell Rapids and St. Thomas More continued to win and remained in the top two spots in the A poll. Previously unranked Dakota Valley, which is also unbeaten, jumped into the #3 spot, followed by McLaughlin who moved up one spot in the rankings. McCook Central/Montrose, which lost to #2 St. Thomas More (54-45) lost for the first time and fell to #5

Class B

1 – WhiteRiver (5-0), 25

2 – Canistota (5-0), 18, previously #3

3 – Viborg /Hurley (5-1), 15, previously #2

4 – Sully Buttes (5-0), 12, previously #5

5 – Waverly/South Shore (6-0), 3, unranked

Also receiving votes –

Langford (5-0), 2

White River continued to hold the top spot in Class A by averaging just over 80 points per game. Twice they have scored 95 points or more.  Canistota remained unbeaten and moved up a spot to #2. Viborg/Hurley, which has only lost to West Lyon, IA, dropped to #3. Sully Buttes had a pair of impressive wins and moved up to #4. Waverly/South Shore continued to win and at 6-0 moved into the rankings for the first time, nosing out Langford, which is also undefeated.

Girls High School Basketball Rankings

Class AA

1 – Mitchell (5-0), 25

2 – SF Washington (6-1), 18

3 – Brandon Valley (4-1), 17, previously #4

4 – Aberdeen Central (5-1), 9, previously #5

5 – SF Roosevelt (5-1), 4, previously unranked, received notes

Others receiving votes

Yankton (3-2), 2

Mitchell remained unbeaten and stayed at top of the rankings, following by SF Washington, which lost to Eastview, MN. Brandon Valley moved up to #3 while Aberdeen Central jumped to #4. SF Falls Roosevelt, which was previously unranked, moved into the rankings while Yankton dropped out but received votes.

Class A

1 – St. Thomas More (6-0), 25

2 – Wagner (6-0), 19, previously #3

3 – Sisseton (7-0), 11, unranked

4 – Parkston (5-1), 10, previously #2

5 – Beresford (4-1), 5, previously #3

5 – Elkton/Lake Benton (6-1), 5, previously #5

St. Thomas More remained #1 after defeating #2 Parkston, 58-38, behind 23 points from Caitlin Duffy. STM also recorded a 50-40 win over Winner and a 62-25 win over Hill City. Wagner, led by Devon Brecke, who now has 1,481 career points, continued to win and moved up to #2. Defending champions Sisseton improved to 7-0, including a win over Class B #3 Summit, and moved into the rankings at #3. Parkston suffered its first loss and fell to #4 while Beresford lost to #2 Wagner and fell into a tie with Elkton/Lake Benton, which to Class B #2 Summit, 47-39, for the #5 spot.

Class B

1 – Herreid/Selby (7-0), 25

2 – Estelline (5-0), 14, unranked

3 – Summit (6-2), 12, previously #4

4 – Warner (5-1), 10 unranked

5 – Kimball/White Lake (6-0), 8, unranked

Also receiving votes

Centerville (4-2), 5; DeSmet (4-1), 1

While Herreid/Selby remained unbeaten and at the top of the Class B rankings, three new teams made their way into the poll. Undefeated Estelline jumped into the poll at #2. Summit moved up a spot to #3 after an impressive win over Class A #5 Elkton/Lake Benton. Unranked Warner, which had three impressive victories, and Kimball/White Lake gained spots in the rankings at #4 and #5 respectively. Previously #3 Centerville fell out of the poll but received considerable support and just missed the top five. Previously #2 DeSmet fell to Miller and dropped out of the poll but did receive some support.
