South Dakota State used first half runs of 10-0 and 12-2 and a second half run of 28-5 to run past UMKC by a final score of 85-58 in Summit League action on Saturday night at Frost Arena in the 20th Annual Lamb Bonanza.
The Jackrabbits, who improve to 15-5 overall and 7-1 in league play, used the first two runs to give them a 40-18 halftime lead, while the second half run gave them a 42 point lead that allowed head coach ScottNagy to give every non-starter at least 12 minutes of playing time.
"It's important that they get minutes," Nagy said of his reserves. "Those guys are going to find themselves in some situations where there's some pressure, and they're going to need to play well, so these minutes are important."
Taévaunn Prince led five Jackrabbits in double figures by tying a career-high with 16 points in playing 24 minutes off the bench, including a perfect 8-for-8 night at the free throw line. Nate Wolters and Jordan Dykstra both scored 15 points, with Wolters adding five rebounds andfive assists. Dykstra got his 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor, which includes a perfect 2-for-2 effort from long distance.
Chad White capped a perfect 4-for-4 night from the floor, and from the free throw line, with 13 points, with one three-pointer, while Griffan Callahan finished with 11 points.
Brayden Carlson scored five points, but added four assists and a game-high seven rebounds, as the Jacks won the rebounding battle 41-23.
Thomas Staton and Reggie Chamberlain both finished with 11 points to lead the Kangaroos, who fall to 7-13 overall and 1-7 in The Summit League.
The Jackrabbits return to the road next week to take on North Dakota State in Fargo, N.D., in a game that can been seen not only live on the Jackrabbit Extra, but on Midco Sports Net on all Midcontinent Cable system subscribers in South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota.
