(Centerville) 151 miles separates the Centerville High School gymnasium from the Huron Arena, the site of this years Class B Girls State Basketball Tournament. But ask the Tornadoes basketball team, and they'll say their dreams of a first state title are a lot closer than that.
Kieran O'Malley/Centerville Jr. Guard "With the players we have, we are the team to beat. We just have to keep working hard."
Bursting onto the scene in 2011, Centerville finished fourth in the State Tourney. And with everyone back from last seasons squad, they are no longer tip toeing around teams, they're simply going through them..
Jamie Parish/Centerville Head Coach "You have to credit kids, people know who we are now, they are going to get up for us and bring their best shot, can't complain with that."
Don't let the small town fool you, there are some big time players off I-29 south. Including junior Kieran O'Mmalley who has already eclipsed 1,000 career points, and is well on her way to two thousand
Parish "I had the privilege of coaching players like Annie Roche and Alisha Brown at Vermillion, and Kieran is cut from that same mold. She has learned that if she has 18 points and 10 assists, it is better than scoring 31 points and losing.
However there is no I in O'Malley or this Tornadoes team. And their team first attitude has made them the talk of the town and maybe the state come March.
Samantha Blake/Centerville Sr. Forward "A championship would mean everything to this town, they have been so supportive and we just want to make them proud."
Dylan Scott, KSFY Sports, Centerville.
