Bond set at $20,000 in Fort Pierre vehicle shooting case

FORT PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A judge has set bond at $20,000 cash for a Fort Pierre man accused of firing a shotgun through the passenger-side window of a vehicle that was stuck in a ditch.

32 year-old Derek Boe said during the bond hearing Monday that he was acting in self-defense.

Boe is charged with aggravated assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Authorities allege he fired into the vehicle Saturday night, shattering the window and causing glass and debris to hit the female driver. She suffered injuries that were deemed not to be life-threatening.

Boe faces up to 17 years in prison if he's convicted.
