South Dakota senior Amber Hegge has been named the Summit League Player of the Week in women's basketball, the league announced on Tuesday. The award is the third of the season for Hegge.
Hegge (Crofton, Neb.) had a pair of outstanding games in leading the Coyotes to a pair of Summit League home wins last week. Hegge had 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the Coyotes' 78-57 win over Western Illinois on Jan. 21 at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D. On Monday, she had 30 points, 12 rebounds and three steals to help the Coyotes top Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis, 73-65. Hegge also shot 48 percent from the field.
Hegge has recorded four straight double-doubles and leads the Coyotes in scoring (18.3 points per game), rebounding (8.7), field goals made (119), free throws made (82) and steals (33). She is second on the team in assists with 67 and second on the team with 37 blocks.
The Coyotes (12-6, 4-5 Summit League) will take a two-game winning streak on the road Saturday to face Southern Utah. Game time is 6 p.m. Central time in Cedar City, Utah.
