Scholar of the Week: Ryan Howe

Posted: Updated:

You may one day see our "Scholar of the Week" bringing you the news.

He already works for his hometown newspaper.

His name is Ryan Howe and he is a senior at Chamberlain High School.

Ryan Howe says he has spent most of his academic career trying to pack in as many classes as time would allow.
His course load this semester is a testament to his hard work. "Right now it's mostly advanced level classes...calculus....physics...2 AP classes...AP Government and AP Literature."

Ryan does well in these classes. He is always willing to help out other students who may need some assistance in class.
He also enjoys his work outside the classroom: he loves drama, the theater and music.
Chamberlain principal Allan Berteram tells us, Ryan is the definition of a well rounded student. "Very dedicated to his academics and his school. But yet, he's diversified as far as being able to be involved in several different areas of our school system."

Another aspect that makes Ryan unique is his working knowledge of technology, so much so that he functions as a technology aide for the school...replacing hard drivers and the like. "You learn quite a bit more than you normally would about computers. Kids call me during class, you know, 'Ryan, my computer is breaking'. OK, I'll fix it."

Ryan says he is going to attend the University of Sioux Falls where he will major in communications and minor in theater.
For being named our "Scholar of the Week", Ryan will get a $100 scholarship from Central Electric Cooperative...which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
