Alex Feeney tallied 13 points to reach her 1,000th-career point and Lydia Nelson scored a season- and game-high 21 points to lead Augustana to a 78-69 victory over Concordia University, St. Paul Friday evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball.
It's the ninth-straight win for the Vikings who move to 15-3 (12-2 NSIC). The Golden Bears drop to 8-12 (5-9 NSIC).
Feeney is the 26th Viking to reach 1,000-career points.
Molly Hayes and Shaunteva Ashley were also in double-digit scoring for the Vikings with 19 and 11 points, respectively.
Rachel Hansen led CU in scoring with 14 points.
Augustana's seventh tie of the first half came at 11:08 when a CU basket brought the score to 17-17 but a layup from Nelson started a 9-0 scoring burst to give the Vikings a 26-17 lead.
The cushion didn't last long for the Vikings as the Golden Bears went on a 10-2 run to bring the score within one point, 28-27, with 2:55 remaining in the half.
Faith Tinklenberg nailed a jumper and Ashlely made a layup to allow Augustana to hold onto its lead until the buzzer.
The Vikings shot 39.4 percent in the half and held a 33-30 advantage at the break.
Just over two minutes into the second half CU used a 7-4 run to knot the score 37-37.
Augustana quickly reached a six-point 43-37 lead but CU scored the next six points to once again tie the score with 12:59 remaining in the game.
Hayes nailed a 3-pointer at 12:44 and despite two more ties, the Vikings kept their lead until CU made a jumper at the five minute, 47 second mark to go up 61-59.
Feeney immediately followed CU's bucket with a jumper to knot the score for its 12th and final time.
Nelson sparked an 11-3 Viking run with a layup at 4:38 and Augustana never looked back, gaining its largest lead, 77-67, with just under a minute remaining.
The Vikings connected on 28 of 65 in the game (43.1 percent) and held CU to 36.9 shooting percent (24 of 65).
Men's Recap
Augustana's guard trio of Drae Murray, Cody Schilling and Drae Murray combined for 49 points as the Vikings cruised to an 89-70 victory over Concordia University, St. Paul Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's basketball.
Augustana moves to 11-7 (8-6 NSIC); CU falls to 8-10 (5-9 NSIC).
Murray and Schilling both scored 18 points for Augustana, and McCaffrey added 13. The back-court group also collaborated for eight assists.
The Vikings shot a season-high 57.7 percent (35 of 61) from the floor and also established a season-high from behind the arc, connecting on 10 of 14 (71.4 percent) 3-pointers.
CU, which was led by Peter Olafeso's 20 points, shot 52.9 percent (27 of 51) from the field.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Vikings and avenged a loss to the Golden Bears on Jan. 3.
Augustana led the entire game and owned as large as a 28-point advantage in the second half.
The Vikings closed the first half on a 17-4 run and led 53-31 at intermission.
Murray poured in 16 first-half points, and Augustana nailed 7 of 9 treys--four of them coming from Murray.
Augustana's offense continued to glide in the second half. By the 9:46 mark, the Vikings held a 73-45 lead after stringing together a 16-4 surge that saw five different players score points.
From there, the closest CU would get was a 19-point difference.
Eleven Vikings made it into the scoring column in Augustana's biggest win (19 points) this season; 27 of the Vikings' 89 points came off the bench.
Schilling's 18 points moved the senior up another spot on the Augustana career scoring list. He passed Scott Beckstrand and now sits in fifth with 1,689 career points.
