Man accused of Madison shooting makes court appearance

Posted: Updated:

The man accused of shooting and killing Norman Johnson, 72, at his home in Madison made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.

Carl Ericsson, 73, of Watertown is accused of first degree murder for shooting Norm Johnson on Tuesday night. According to an arrest affidavit, Johnson died from two gunshots wounds to his face.

The affidavit also revealed that Johnson's wife Barbara went to the front door and found her husband on the ground.

The affidavit says witnesses told authorities that Ericsson and Johnson knew one another and were high school classmates.

Ericsson's record is clean and this would be his first criminal offense. He made his first court appearance in Lake County on Thursday.

In court KSFY learned that Ericsson graduated from Madison High School and has been married for 44 years. He and his wife recently moved back to Watertown from Wyoming five years ago.

The judge ruled that Ericsson is a flight risk and ordered he be held without bond. The judge is also concerned that Ericsson may try to hurt himself or others if he was released.

We will have more of what was said in Lake County court coming up on KSFY News at 5,6, and 10.
