SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota man accused of killing a pedestrian while driving drunk has been sentenced to 1 ½ years in prison.
Twenty-year-old Austin Abernathy of Fort Thompson pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter last November. U.S. Attorney Brendan Johnson says Abernathy will be on supervised release for three years following his prison term.
Abernathy was accused of striking 22-year-old Cole St. John on a Fort Thompson road on Dec. 5, 2010. St. John died of his injuries.
