According to a recent report, the number of emergency room patients being treated for synthetic drugs has nearly doubled in one year.
Avera McKennan ER Doctor Luke VanOeveren tells KSFY he has definitely seen an increase in synthetic drug related cases, here in Sioux Falls.
Doctor VanOeveren says most cases have involved K2 and spice because those are the easiest to get a hold of.
He told us a list of symptoms to watch out for.
"Extreme paranoia, very bad anxiety, they can also have palpitations and increased heart rate," said Dr. Luke VanOeveren.
Doctor VanOeveren also says there have been recent reports of teenagers having heart attacks due to synthetic drug use.
