Our Scholar of the Week has a perfect four-point-oh grade point average.
She obviously does well in the classroom but is also in band, chorus, swing choir, jazz band, student council and the list goes on.
Her name is Kelli Garry. She is a senior at Lake Preston and she is our "Scholar of the Week".
It seems that Kelli Garry always has a smile on her face, which is just one reason people at lake Preston like to be around her. Another reason? The work ethic she sets for herself is something to admire. "English 4, advanced Math, and then Chemistry and Government."
She carries a tough class load which she says she actually enjoys and there is one class in particular that she says she consistently looks forward to. "My English class is doing a lot for me because she's teaching us how to write college papers and right now we're working on out research paper and that's definitely something we will do in college."
Kelli's English teacher is Treva Casper, and she says Kelli is one student whose success is truly the result of hard work. "Kelli is definitely the top student in class. She works hard to improve herself continually. She's never happy with not quite good enough. She always works hard to do her best."
Kelli wants to attend either USD or SDSU and major in pre-med. She says what sparked her interest was working in an after school program for younger kids. "That really got me involved with working with kids and now I can't imagine a career without working with them."
For being named our "Scholar of the Week", Kelli will receive a $100 dollar scholarship from Kingsbury Electric Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
