Long before USD senior guard Louie Krogman ever stepped on the floor at the DakotaDome, he had penciled his name into South Dakota basketball lore. As a senior at White River high school, he broke the state's 50-year all-time scoring record and led the Tigers to their first state title.
"Louie is someone who had success before he even got to USD," coach Dave Boots said. "He is always been humble about that and is great to coach."
Four years later, he's continuing to leave a legacy, this time in Vermillion, where the coyote guard will finish his career in the top ten in scoring and three point shooting. Just a few of his major contributions to the university.
"It has been a journey," Krogman said. "I have enjoyed all of it and it has been an honor to play for this school and represent South Dakota. It is something I am very proud of."
However, his most impressive mark has nothing to do with statistics. Rather, his decision to attend USD in the first place.
"He came here knowing he wouldn't get to do a lot of these things," Boots added. "Despite that he still wanted to be a Coyote and it shows his dedication to this program and to staying in the state."
The most important opportunity missing was a chance at DI postseason play, however Krogman did gain two big games back with the renewed rivalry with SDSU.
"It is going to be a challenge, beating them," Krogman said. "But we are going to come out and play extremely hard as we always do."
"I love this university, looking back I would not change a thing and know I'd make the same decision," Krogman added.
