SCOTLAND, S.D. (AP) - Some South Dakota public schools are going to a 4-day school week, but the Scotland school system won't be 1 of them.
Superintendent Damon Alvey says the school board wants to study the issue in more depth. He says switching from a 5-day to a 4-day class week doesn't have obvious advantages.
Alvey says there hasn't been strong public support for the proposal either way among the school district's parents.
If the board had approved a 4-day week, it wouldn't have taken effect until the fall of 2013. Alvey says the issue will be put on hold while the board looks at other projects, such as construction of an auxiliary gym.
Scotland is about 80 miles southeast of Sioux Falls.
