HIGHMORE, S.D. (AP) - A Highmore woman is scheduled to be honored at the White House on Wednesday for creating jobs and developing projects to improve America's infrastructure.

Janelle Jessen is one of eleven leaders to be honored as Champions of Change. She's the accounting and office manager for Venture Communications Cooperative in Highmore.

The White House says Jessen's work ensured that 865 rural subscribers would have new and improved broadband Internet service. It's part of a $5.2 million investment from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to install a fiber optic project in an underserved area of South Dakota,

The Champions of Change program each week highlights a different sector, including educators, entrepreneurs and community leaders.
