PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Members of the Senate State Affairs Committee say their panel lacks the information it needs to vote on a measure to increase court record fees.
The bill would hike the fee from $15 to $25 in order to help the United Judicial System afford a new computer system that makes information available to the public.
Property management companies, landlords, nonprofits and media entities have voiced concern about the fee increase.
Sen. Bob Gray says the Senate Appropriations Committee is the best panel to examine UJS's budget.
Sen. Larry Rhoden questioned whether raising the fees was the appropriate way to fund the new technology system.
On Wednesday, committee members voted 8-1 to pass it along to Appropriations.
