UPDATE: One arrest made in shooting at Sioux Falls school

Posted: Updated:

Sioux Falls Police say one man has been arrested in connection with a shooting early Thursday morning.

Carlos Duran-Garcia, 21, of Sioux Falls has been charged with aggravated assault and discharge of fire arm from moving vehicle.

Police say they have made contact with the primary people involved.

They say there is no concern for public safety at this time but they are still looking for more witnesses.

Just after midnight Thursday morning Sioux Falls Police responded to a call of shots fired and a possibility that someone had been shot.

When Sioux Falls Police got to the scene they say they found a 19-year-old male with a single gunshot wound.

He was found near 400 North Valley View Road which is right in the Hayward Elementary School parking lot.

Soon after police say a car was spotted by officers and stopped in the 200 block of North Dogwood Place.

Sioux Falls Police tell KSFY, between 10 to 15 people are involved.

They believe the shooting resulted from an argument between two groups of people and that Duran-Garcia was in the vehicle and shot the victim in the back.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound. He is okay and has been released.

Police say they are still investigating if this was gang related activity or if drugs and alcohol were involved.

They say, all charges will be released at a later time.
