Dachshunds race across Stampede game

Posted: Updated:

Stampede fans were treated to another kind of contest Saturday night, when 40 short-legged dogs "raced" across the ice.

The Stampede hosted the 5th annual Wiener Dog Race, where 40 dachshunds were supposed to run down the rink to their owners.

Only a handful actually ran down the ice, but the event was all to raise money and awareness for the Dakota Dachshund Rescue, which has helped over 400 dachshunds since its founding.

Last year they raised over $1,000.

"It goes into a medical fund for the dogs. Each of the dogs are spayed, neutered, updated on shots and surgeries before they go onto their adoptive homes," Diane Wade said.

KSFY's Nancy Naeve Brown did not miss the excitement either, and raced her dog Ned. He didn't win.
