After a pick-up truck fell through the ice on a South Dakota lake Saturday, officials are warning drivers to stay off the lake.
It happened on the west side of Lake Poinsett around 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Hamlin County Sheriff's Office says that truck sunk in less than a minute with the driver inside.
The driver was able to crawl out the window.
And luckily there were some fishermen in the area to help him.
The Watertown Police Department and Hamlin County officials want everyone to keep all vehicles off the lake.
They suggest people stay off the ice as well especially at night when they won't able to see open areas.
Officials say the ice is just too thin and is unsafe.
With the mild winter we've been having officials say the ice isn't thick enough to drive on and there are too many areas of open water.
The man driving the pick-up truck is expected to be OK.
Hennepin County officials also have a thin ice warning. They want people to keep large vehicles off thin ice as well.
The warning was issued earlier this month on February 9th and they continue reminding local residents.
Since that warning was issued there has been one water rescue.
A total of eight vehicles have gone through the ice in Hennepin County this season.
Deputies are checking ice conditions and will let people know when it's safe.
