Boys High School Basketball

Class AA

1 – SF O'Gorman (15-3), 25

2 – SF Lincoln (15-3), 18

3 – Mitchell (16-3), 17

4 – Pierre (14-5), 10, #5 last week

5 – Huron (11-8), 4, unranked

Notes: #1 O'Gorman, which has a six-game winning streak and has won 53-of-54 against SD opponents, defeated #2 SF Lincoln, 54-52, for the seventh straight time. O'G, which is #1 for the third straight week, has won 16 straight against city rivals. In the last three games with SFL, O'Gorman has won by one point twice and a two-pointer this past week. The Knights finished the regular season with home games vs. SF Washington on Feb. 21 and Brandon Valley on Feb. 23. SF Lincoln had a seven-game winning streak snapped in a loss to O'Gorman but rebounded with a 61-58 win over previously #4 Brookings, which dropped from the top-five but still received a little support. Mitchell won and remained at #3, although the Kernels did receive two second place votes. Pierre won and moved up while Huron, which has six straight wins, moved into the rankings for the first time at the #5 spot.

Class A

1 – St. Thomas More (17-2), 25

2 – McCook Central/Montrose (16-3), 20

3 – Madison (16-3), 15

4 – Dakota Valley (16-3), 10

5 – Dell Rapids (15-4), 5

Notes: #1 St. Thomas More remained at the top, extending their winning streak to eight games. They will host Class B #1 White River (18-0) on Feb. 25 in Rapid City.  McCook Central/Montroseextended its winning streak to 10 games with a pair of victories and remained at #2. With an 82-47 win over Pipestone, Minn., Madison won their eighth straight game and stayed at #3. Dakota Valley has built a five-game winning streak and remained #4. Dell Rapids had a pair of wins and remained #5.

Class B

1 – White River (18-0), 25

2 – Faith (19-0), 20

3 – Rosholt (18-1), 15

4 – Viborg /Hurley (18-2), 10

5 – Langford (17-2), 5

 Notes: #1 White River (18-0), which plays Class A #1 St. Thomas More on Feb. 25 in Rapid City, is the only team in either the boys or girls rankings to retain the top spot all season. White River has won every game by at least 11 points. Other than a 60-49 win over McLaughlin and the 60-47 win over Todd County, White River has defeated all opponents by 16 points or more and own 10 wins of 37 points or more. Faith had a pair of wins to remain unbeaten and they end the regular season at Wall on Feb. 24. Rosholt stayed at #3 with a win over Great Plains Lutheran. Kevin Jackson's crew has lost just one game to Maple Valley, N.D., and is unbeaten against SD foes. They end the regular season at Clinton/Graceville/Beardlsey, Minn., on Feb. 24.Viborg/Hurley had two big wins and head into the post-season with a nine-game winning streak. A year ago, they advanced to the Class A finals, only to fall.Langford Area has won nine straight and will host Waverly/South Shore (14-5) to conclude the regular season on Feb. 24.

Girls High School Basketball

Class AA

1 – Mitchell (18-1),25

2 – SF Washington (16-3), 18

3 – Yankton (13-5), 17

4 – Sioux Falls Roosevelt (12-6), 9, unranked

5 – Brandon Valley (12-6), 4, #4 last week

Aberdeen Central (13-5), 2

Notes: Mitchell (18-1) won its 13th straight and retained the top spot for the sixth straight week. They host Aberdeen Central on Feb. 21. SF Washington (16-3) had a 10-game winning streak snapped in a home loss (40-37) to SF Roosevelt, which jumped into the rankings at #4 after winning three straight. The Warriors defeated #5 Brandon Valley, 42-32, at home and retained the #2 spot, just ahead of Yankton (one point). Yankton, which has won six straight games, defeated two opponents and gained support in the rankings. They close the regular season at Huron on Feb. 21. Brandon Valley had a 1-1 week and dropped to #5. Aberdeen Central had a 1-1 week and fell from the rankings, although they did receive some support.

Class A

1 – Wagner (20-0), 25

2 – St. Thomas More (18-2), 20

3 – Elkton/Lake Benton (17-3), 15

4 – Tri-Valley (17-3), 10

5 – Sisseton (17-2), 5

Notes: Class A remained the same this week. #1 Wagner defeated Vermillion (15-4), 58-42, to add another quality win to the Red Raiders resume. They also defeated Platte/Geddes, 75-53. Since a 42-36 verdict over #2 St. Thomas More on Jan. 14, Wagner has won eight straight by double digitmargins. They are the only unbeaten girls' team, regardless of class. STM ended the season with a win and only have a loss to Wagner and out-of-state foe Chadron, Neb. They have defeated eight straight SD opponents. Elkton/Lake Benton did not play with its regular season completed but remained #3. Tri-Valley ended the regular season with a win and has eight straight victories. Sisseton had three wins to hold onto the #5 spot. They have won five straight. A couple of other notes about Class A, Miller did not move into the top five but extended its winning streak to 11 and finished the season 18-2. Parkston finished the regular season 17-3 and have won 10 straight, including nine by double digits. Clark/Willow Lake (17-3) also increased its winning streak to eight and Aberdeen Roncalli (16-4) has won six straight.

Class B

1 – Summit (18-2), 25

2 – Centerville (17-3), 20

3 – Warner (18-2), 12, last week #5

4 – Castlewood (16-2), 7, unranked

5 – Sully Buttes (18-2), 5, unranked

Others receiving votes:

Eureka/Bowdle (16-3), 4, #3 last week

Estelline (16-3), 2, #4 last week

Notes: The top two teams held onto their spots after wins, although the rest of the top-five had a little shuffling with two new teams jumping into the rankings. #1 Summit ended the regular season with 13 straight wins and held the top spot for the third straight week. Centerville has won nine straight to remain at #2. #3 Warner ended the season with its seventh straight win, a 42-34 verdict over previously #3 Eureka/Bowdle, which fell from the rankings.  #4 Estelline lost to Castlewood and dropped from the top-five. Castlewood moved into the #4 spot and has 11 straight wins. Meanwhile, Sully Buttes ended the season with a Class B-best 15 straight wins and is the new #5 team. A couple of notes on Class B, Hanson moved to 17-3 and ended the season on a 13-game winning streak. ORR (15-4) has won seven straight.
