Department of Corrections notifies public of inmate release

Posted: Updated:

Corrections Secretary Denny Kaemingk is providing notification to law enforcement and the public about the pending release of a state prison inmate.

Inmate Ed Morris was sentenced to 10 years in prison in October 2001 for 2nd Degree Rape out of Spink County.

Because his sentence expires today, the Department of Corrections is mandated to release Morris.

"The inmate has a criminal history of engaging in aggressive acts of sexual perpetration of vulnerable individuals, including children and the developmentally disabled, with little or no grooming or planning involved," said Secretary Kaemingk. "Our assessments show he is a high risk to recidivate, and I believe it to be prudent to alert law enforcement and the public of this pending release."

Upon his release from prison, Morris plans to reside in Sioux Falls.

The specific notification is in addition to the letters currently sent to law enforcement and notices provided to the Division of Criminal Investigation each month.
