SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Students from across the state will not only eat pizza next week - they'll also learn how farmers helped produce it.
As part of National Ag Week, a local dairy farmer and pork producer will meet with fourth- and fifth-grade students at several schools to discuss the state's agricultural industry. They'll also provide a pizza party and discuss with students how the ingredients in the pizza are produced by farms and made into pizzas.
National Ag Week runs March 4-10. South Dakota farmers will be educating local youths March 5-16.
Steve Rommereim is the president of Ag United, 1 of the sponsors of the event. He is also a farmer in Alchester.
He says Ag Day provides many students the first opportunity to learn about agriculture from actual producers.
