Being involved might be an understatement for one Gayville-Violin High School senior.
Gayville, South Dakota is about 20 minutes east of Yankton.
KSFY's Courtney Zieller has Thursday night's Scholar of the Week.
Luke Buffington is taking seven classes his senior year including a college course and some online classes.
Besides being involved in more activities then we can mention, he's a track guy and his dad happens to be the head coach.
"I prefer throwing and that's what I've done since sixth grade because my dad was a shot putter in college," Buffington said.
Luke also had a busy summer that he's still talking about including his love for one of the four camps he went to last year.
"It sounds kind of interesting and nerdy almost because it's like economics camp. We affectionately call it nerd camp but the leadership component is just as interesting as the economic portion of it. It's very emotional and interesting the friends I've made and I talk to those people on a daily basis," Buffington said.
But it's his continuous leadership role that's caught the attention of his teachers including Jeremiah Dibley. Dibley says Luke sets the bar for his fellow classmates.
"Anything that students can do to match Luke and they know it is good so he really brings the level of himself up and the level of his fellow classmates up as well," Dibley said.
And being a leader is what Luke is taking to college.
"I like leadership and that kind of interaction you get with different types of people and group dynamics," Buffington said.
Sounds like he's on the right track.
Luke has applied to some east coast colleges and well as some state colleges.
