New Sioux Falls Events Center designs released

Posted: Updated:

We now have a better idea what the new Sioux Falls Events Center could look like.

The project's design team released drawings Thursday night and the public was invited to see the progression.

The designs are something architectural firms have been working on since the beginning of January.

"We've been working with the city, potential operations, talking with teams so we've been getting a lot of great input," Don Dethlefs said.

Don Dethlefs is with Sink Combs Dethlefs Architects. He presented floor plans to people sitting in the audience.

Dethlefs talked about the four events center levels and a fifth level which will be used for a show's crew.

On each level are concessions, various men's and women's bathrooms, wider seating and the goal is to make the whole building handicapped accessible.

On the outside, there will be more entrances. It's a building that will mainly have small to medium sized events but crews still want to attract larger events.

With a goal of breaking ground this summer or fall, the project is moving forward.

"We're excited to be at this point. We're excited people voted for this and we're looking forward to continuing to work with the city on it," Dethlefs said.

The next step is for architectural firms to finalize the plans. The plans will then go to the city for approval.

There's room to grow with this facility. Crews are designing it to add another 3,000 seats if it's needed in the future.

The meeting was held Thursday night at the Morningside Community Center in Sioux Falls.

Events Center completion is set for 2014.
