Our "Scholar of the Week" has a lot to balance both in and out of the classroom.
She carried a 3.86 grade point average in her class work.
Beyond that, Mindy Kraft of Wessington Springs High School is also active with drama, speech, cross country, basketball and the list just goes on from there.
Ask Mindy Kraft about her class load and she will tell you she takes A-P statistics and physics and creative writing. But ask her about school and she will tell you one of the things she truly values are the relationships she has....with other students and with teachers. "I'm a very big people person. I love to get to know as many people as I can. In a small town, I can do that."
A small town and a small school: Mindy says in some classes there are a total of three students. But she says that smaller class scenario allows her more time with her teachers which she says improves her understanding. Her English teacher, Dustin Putnam, says Mindy's determination really pays off in class. "She consistently performs at the top of her class and consistently produced exemplary work."
Mindy hopes her work ultimately pays off...in Hollywood. She has a real love for the cinema and says in addition to watching movies, she would one day like to help make a movie. "My big dream is to be involved in making movies. But of course it requires a lot of work and starting small and going up."
In the short term, upon graduation, Mindy is going to go to college in Minnesota where she plans on majoring in film studies...the first step in making her dream come true.
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Mindy will receive a $100 scholarship from Central Electric Cooperative, which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
