Madison neighbors react after body found in creek

Posted: Updated:

The body of a 29 year-old man was found in Madison's Memorial Creek near the 600 block of SE 1st Street around 12:30 p.m., Sunday.

Madison Police say the man accidentally drowned.

People who live there are recovering from the big storms, Saturday night, which left many homes flooded. We met people who live around the creek and say this kind of death was the last thing they'd expected.

"We had cops here from the flooding and then 10 times the cops, we didn't know why they were here," Melanie Gramberg said.

And those cops were in the area because a man's body had been found.

"Very scary because you think he's twenty-something and should know better. But it could happen to anyone," Melanie Gramberg said.

Whether these neighbors knew the man, they're shocked, but not surprised, after what the big storms left behind.

"Tragedy and disaster can claim a lot of lives, we're lucky we only lost one man. We should have lost zero but we're lucky it's just the one man who's life was cost," Tyler Maji said.

"It's scary because it's a friend, someone here in town people knew so it's horrible," Gramberg said.

Police tell KSFY an autopsy will be done Monday. The man's name is not being released. Police want to make sure his family knows what happened.
