If you are a parent, then you know, without fail, your kids seem to get sick or get hurt after regular business hours or on holiday weekends like this one. Avera Medical Group McGreevy has you covered with two Urgent Care locations in Sioux Falls. Nancy Naeve Brown gets a tour of the newest clinic at Dawley Farm.
Avera Medical Group added another McGreevy Clinic in Sioux Falls is the quickly developing east side area at Dawley Farm. From 7am to 5 pm you can get treated by your primary care physicians here, but after 5 and on weekends this has become the new Avera Urgent Care Facility. And that's great news for Kylie Hodge, mother of 3 young kids.
"I live in Brandon so it's 6 minutes from here," Kylie Hodge said.
Dr. Colleen Breske is one of the family practice doctors who dedicate her time solely to urgent care. She said they are fully staffed and equipped to take care of non-life threatening conditions like fevers, flu, strep throat, urinary tract infections, sprains and broken bones.
"If it's an obvious complicated fracture where the bone is sticking out with a deformity go directly to the ER not urgent care. If it's an uncomplicated break or you aren't sure if it's a fracture then it's appropriate to come to Urgent Care, "Dr. Breske said.
Dr. Breske says so many people under utilize Urgent Care and that could be an expensive and time consuming mistake.
"70% of patients seen in the ER could be seen in Urgent Care which is typically more cost effective and convenient, "Dr. Breske said.
The Dawley Farm clinic has 15 exam rooms, a radiology department with digital x-rays, two procedure rooms that are used for things like mole removal or casting broken arms and legs, and they have an onsite lab so you'll get results back almost immediately if you have an infection of some sort. Since Kylie Hodge has a 3 year old with chronic ear infections plus 6 and 11 year olds who are prone to strep, she loves urgent care.
"I do. My doctor is awfully busy and sometimes hard to get into her during the day so it's nice to come to a personable place that's quick and easier," Kylie said.
Dr. Breske wants you to know if you think you are having a heart attack, stroke, or suffering severe abdominal pain or seizures don't waste time coming to Urgent Care: call 911 immediately. Everything else they'll be happy and ready to treat you when it works best for you which is usually after work and on weekends.
The new Dawley Farm Clinic replaces the Urgent Care offered at the Avera McGreevy clinic on southeastern (located in the Avera McKennan Fitness Center). The other McGreevy Urgent Care location is on West 41st and you don't need an appointment for either.
