Woman Charged with SD Murder Speaks

Letisha Morgan says her mind isn't right. The 34-year-old has been charged with two murders - one in Texas, the other in South Dakota. She says she's been diagnosed with depression, schizophrenia, and bi-polar disorder.

"I think it's something more than that because I blank out and can't remember anything. But, when I come to I'm in jail, I'm in trouble," said Morgan.

In October of 2010, Morgan was living in Sioux Falls. She says she met 52-year-old Howard Allen at a soup kitchen and that she was working as a prostitute.

"I had a relapse there (Sioux Falls), and I stabbed him 13, 14 times," said Morgan.

Court papers state that Morgan actually stabbed Allen 37 times, with three different knives. On Tuesday, Morgan was charged with the crime.

"Today my office filed charges against Letisha Morgan, charging murder in the first degree regarding the death of Howard Paul Allen," said Minnehaha County State Attorney, Aaron McGowan.

A life or organized crime, prostitution, and drugs are what Morgan says put her in jail. She says she was simply defending herself.

"When you're in organized crime it's either you or them. There's no friend, or respect, or loyalty."

If found guilty, Morgan says she understands a lengthy prison term awaits her.

"I understand that, and you know what? I'm not looking at that as a bad thing. I'm looking at it as a good thing, because I need to rest. My body is tired, and my mind is corrupted."
