Father, 2-year-old son escape house fire in Mitchell

Posted: Updated:

A father and his 2-year-old son are okay after another house fire in Mitchell on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at about 3 p.m. shortly after Noah Campbell said he heard the smoke alarm. He said at first he thought it was a malfunction, but the situation heated up when he walked downstairs and flames were next to his son's crib.

"Nothing's really going through my head but getting him out of there," Campbell said.

Campbell was able to stop someone passing by in a vehicle to call 911. Fire Chief Paul Morris said crews were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly.

Morris said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but they have narrowed down the possible location where the fire started.

The Fire Chief said Mitchell has had some bad luck with fires recently. He said this situation stresses even more the importance of smoke alarms.
