Laura Ingalls Wilder autobiography to be published

Posted: Updated:

Laura Ingalls Wilder's books are available all over the world, but she has one story that has never been published—until now.

The autobiography of the Little House author has never been published as a literary piece. However, the South Dakota State Historical Society Press announced Laura Ingalls Wilder's personal story, Pioneer Girl, will be available to everyone next year.

"We are delighted to announce this major publishing event," SDSHS Press Director Nancy Tystad Koupal said in a news release. "The opportunity to bring such an important work to print for the first time is an indication of the high standards to which we aspire and the success that we have achieved over the past 15 years."

SDHS Press successfully negotiated the worldwide, exclusive rights to publish the autobiography in June 2013. The Little House Heritage trust, the administrators of Wilder's Estate, granted the rights to publish the book as a result of the SDSHS Press's award-winning 2007 biography, Laura Ingalls Wilder: A Writer's Life.

The new book is in development and is scheduled to be released in June 2013. Wilder's Little House books were intended for children, but according to the South Dakota State Historical Society Pioneer Girl is intended for an adult audience.

The SDSHS Press publication will be an annotated, featuring Wilder's original text and historical context. The book also features photographs and images from historical collections throughout the country.

Pioneer Girl can be preordered for $35 direct from the South Dakota State Historical Society Press by contacting (605) 773-6009 or emailing
