Sioux Falls parents concerned over Kolcraft stroller recall

Posted: Updated:

A warning for you about a popular stroller after it injured three kids and two parents.

On the side of the recalled stroller there are hinges which are used to adjust the handlebars. Some parents had their fingers smashed and some kids had the top of their fingertips cut off.

Some Sioux Falls parents are now checking what they put their kids in.

Seth Dekkenga became a dad for the first time four months ago. And before he bought a stroller for baby Jude, he did his research.

"He's our first kid and it's all new to us and we asked a lot of friends and looked online," Dekkenga said.

He also looked at stroller reviews posted by other parents which is what many baby experts suggest you do.

But the thought of any stroller recall troubles Seth.

"It concerns us a little bit and me a little bit because we want our child to be safe so I guess naturally there's a little concern," Dekkenga said.

Kolcraft Contours Options strollers with three and four wheels are being recalled. 36,000 have been sold in the United States. 270 were sold in Canada. Strollers included in the recall have model numbers starting with ZL002, ZL005, ZL008, ZL015 and ZL018. On the ZL002 model, the model number and date of manufacture is printed on a sticker above the left wheel. On the ZL005, ZL008, ZL015 and ZL018 models, the model number and date of manufacture is printed on a label sewn into the edge of back of the stroller seat pad. They were sold in various color schemes.

If you have one, you likely spent between $150-$160 and bought it at a department store or online including Walmart, Target, Toys R Us and Amazon. They were for sale from January 2006 to June 2012.

And even though Seth doesn't own this type of stroller he's now checking his own.

"There's that parental instinct to check my stroller and see what can possibility hurt him. I guess it would open my eyes to look a little bit closer at the things we have," Dekkenga said.

If you own the recalled stroller, you have to contact Kolcraft at (800) 453-7673 between 8 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. ET Friday.
