RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - New rules for billboards and business signs go into effect next month in Rapid City, capping more than a year of debate.
The City Council on Monday approved three ordinances regulating signs. One applies to off-premises billboards, one to on-premises signs and the third lays out general provisions.
The rewrite of the city's sign code incorporates restrictions approved by voters a year ago on new billboards and a ban of new digital billboards.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard earlier this year vetoed a bill that would have prohibited cities from banning digital billboards.
