Senator calls for investigation of Secretary of State's Office
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A state senator is calling for an investigation into the South Dakota Secretary of State's Office because of an employee's operation of an online business that sells campaign materials.
Attorney General spokeswoman Sara Rabern says the letter from Republican Sen. Stan Adelstein of Rapid City was received Tuesday and the matter is under review.
Adelstein is asking Attorney General Marty Jackley to look into Dakota Campaign Store, which had been run by employee Pat Powers. Powers formerly ran a conservative blog.
The website has since been taken down.
Adelstein says he's concerned about allegations of impropriety, conflict of interest and possible illegal activity.
Secretary of State Jason Gant did not immediately return a telephone call to The Associated Press.
