PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A $10,000 cash bond has been set for a Pierre man who has been charged with kidnapping and burglary.
Prosecutors say Lee Provancial broke into a Pierre home on June 13 and took a child from her bed and held her against her will in another room of the house.
Provancial was 17 years old at the time of the incident, but he turned 18 on Friday. KCCR reports that prosecutors want to try him as an adult. Provancial has been charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree kidnapping. He faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and $80,000 in fines for both charges.
Brad Schreiber, Provancial's attorney, noted that there is no evidence the child had been harmed.
A status hearing has been set for July 3.
