Plans for Sanford medical campus in Fargo grow in size, price

Posted: Updated:

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Dakotas-based Sanford Health says the new medical campus it plans in Fargo has grown in size and in price.

The initial design was for a 371-bed medical center that would cost $360 million. The plan now is for a 460-bed facility that will cost $541 million.

Sanford spokesman Dennis Millirons said increased patient volumes and expanding medical specialties are reasons for the larger plans.

Groundbreaking for the 1.2 million-square-foot center is set for July 31, with construction to begin next year. The project is scheduled for completion by 2018.

Sanford is based in Fargo and in Sioux Falls, S.D. The health system has a presence in more than 100 communities in seven states.
